The Fiammetta was inspired by the cover of the 1725 book titled "The Decameron of Giovanni Boccaccio." Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375) was an Italian writer and poet who laid the foundation for Renaissance humanism.
The Decameron, is a collection of novellas, each told by one of ten main characters. There are tales of witty jokes, lusty romantic entanglements and tragic, real-life events. The 18th-century book of The Decameron is preserved at the Musée Condé in Chantilly, France.
